Zamfara State Police Command, in the early hours of today, foiled an attack by bandits and rescued a 30-year-old kidnapped victim.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, disclosed this in a statement.

The statement says, “On January 2nd, 2021 at about 04. 30 hours, the Command received a distress call that armed bandits in their large numbers came to the outskirts of Shinkafi with intend to kidnap innocent members of the community.

“A combined team of PMF/CTU attached to the ‘Operation Puff Adder’ responded quickly and foiled the attack.

“One Samaila Langa, a 30-year-old, who was kidnapped by the bandits during the incident was successfully rescued by the combined efforts of the police and leaders of the repentant bandits.”

The victim, according to the statement, has been reunited with his family after being debriefed.

Meanwhile, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Abutu Yaro, has warned recalcitrant terrorists against acts capable of jeopardising government’s efforts at ensuring peace in the state.

He gave the warning at a meeting with tactical commanders at the police command headquarters, in Gusau, on Thursday.

Yaro enjoined bandits who are yet to embrace the peace pact of the state government to do so in their own interest.

According to a separate statement by the command’s spokesman, Yaro urged the bandits to “suspend their violence acts and embrace peace by accepting the ongoing dialogue with the government”.

He warned that the police and other security agencies “will not spare recalcitrant criminals who refuse to tow the line of peace in Zamfara State”.

Yaro also charged his men to redouble efforts, adding that the command will continue to partner with sister security agencies, traditional rulers and members of the host communities to ensure that peace is fully restored to all parts of the state.

He assured officers and men of the command that the authorities are doing everything possible to promote their welfare, and enjoined them to reciprocate this gesture by demonstrating greater commitment to their duties.

He vowed to deal with any police officer caught engaging in currupt practices, especially extortion of motorists on highways, and other unprofessional acts.

Yaro also appealed to members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police and other security agencies by providing them with credible and timely information on activities of criminal elements in the state.
