A sharp exchange has erupted between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and activist Aisha Yesufu, following the outcome of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary for the FCT Senate seat.
The confrontation escalated after Wike, speaking at the Renewed Hope Luncheon, took aim at critics of political office holders, directly referencing Yesufu’s earlier remarks questioning the role of appointees in electoral politics.
He dismissed what he described as theoretical commentary disconnected from political realities.
He said, “You speak grammar, speak grammar oh. Ordinary primary of NDC, what happened?”
Wike continued his criticism, suggesting that public commentary often changes when confronted with actual political outcomes.
“It is easy for people to talk. When they go on TV stations, they begin to churn out data from nowhere. Now, the time for data has come. What happened? ‘Fa fa fa foul.’ It didn’t work.”
His remarks were widely interpreted as a response to Yesufu’s position on political legitimacy and participation, particularly in light of her loss in the FCT senatorial primary.
However, Aisha Yesufu responded forcefully on X, rejecting the Minister’s comments and shifting the focus to his own political history and alliances.
In a strongly worded post, she wrote:
“Ovevekuve! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I hear say one man that did not win primaries in 2022, who even lobbied for running mate and still was not chosen, then ran to do boi boi for a fellow man like him and ended up destroying a party that was once largest in Africa and was recently disgraced by a young military officer is talking about a woman in NDC!”
She further challenged Wike directly, adding: “If dem born Wike well, make e call my name with his full chest!”
Yesufu also referenced past political contests, stating: “What Tambuwal did him in 2022 will be child’s play! You have been doing politics for donkey years yet you were outplayed so foolishly!”
The exchange has since gained traction across social media platforms, with supporters and critics of both figures weighing in on what has become a highly personalised political dispute.
