World Cup: Moscow Times Mocks Russia, after Loss to Croatia

Segun Atanda/

Moscow Times wasn’t sympathetic with its headline Saturday when Russia lost its quarter-final match to Croatia.

Moscow Times immediately published a screaming headline ‘Russia Kicked Out of World Cup’ after the penalty shootout that ended 4-3, following a 2-2 score at full-time.

Moscow Times apparently mocking headline.

NewsmakersNG, however, could not find the reason why the story was later yanked off the site.

Russia started the tournament with a lot of promise after defeating Saudi Arabia and Egypt with a loss to Uruguay at the group stages, and sending Spain home in the round-of-16 game.

Stanislav Cherchesov’s team lost after Fedor Smolov and Mario Fernandez missed penalties.
