Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets were ushered into Sao-Paulo, Brazil with drums, trumpets and dances Thursday, as they prepare for the Under 17 World Cup starting in two weeks.
The team of 25 players led by nine officials, including the Head Coach, Manu Garba, arrived Guarulhos International Airport, Sao Paulo, Brazil at exactly 5 pm Brazilian time through Emirates Airline.
The five-times world champion departed immediately for Accor Hotels in Sorocaba on the outskirts of Sao Paulo City where the squad is expected to have a full training for two weeks before selecting the exact 21 players that will play the tournament out of the 25 players that arrived in Brazil.
Garba told NewsmakersNG on arrival in Brazil: “We are optimistic that the cup will go with us to Nigeria again.”
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception given to the team on arrival in Brazil and promised to do Nigeria proud.
Mr Gbenga Sanni, the coordinator of Nigeria’s supporters’ club, Brazil chapter, promised to motivate the Nigerian community in Brazil to give all the necessary support by making sure that the stadiums are full of Nigerian supporters in all the African matches.
Members of the supporters club identified as Shehu, Sharaf, and Bosa led the reception with songs, trumpets and easy language communication at the immigration in Brazil.
The Eaglets will tackle Hungary on October 26, in Goiânia, State of Goias and will encounter Ecuador three days later in the same venue before the final Group B match against Australia in Brasilia, the Federal Capital Territory on November 1.
