Women’s Day: AGGSOGA Celebrates, Dreams of Better Society

Matilda Omonaiye/

As the world marks International Women’s Day today, the Global President of Abeokuta Girls Grammar School Old Girls Association (AGGSOGA) Mrs. Olusolape Ajibola has called on Nigerian women to stand for their rights and be inspired by the accomplishments of women who have made great contributions to society.

“We must work together to break down the barriers that hold us back and create a society where women can thrive and achieve their full potential without wasting of valuable time on frivolity,” Mrs. Ajibola says in a statement issued today.

The statement reads in full: “On this special occasion of International Women’s Day, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible resilience and strength of many AGGSOGA members and distinguished ladies standing shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts in the affairs of this country and the world at large.

“You have persevered through countless challenges and obstacles, fighting tirelessly to make your voices heard and secure your place in society.

“Nigeria has a rich history of women who have made great contributions to society, from the legendary Queen Amina of Zazzau to the pioneering Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti of Abeokuta and Okonjo-Iwealas of this world.

“These women have blazed trails in politics, science, economics, medicine, finance, and business, setting an example for generations of Nigerian women to follow.

“But despite these achievements, women in Nigeria still face significant challenges. Gender inequality is still pervasive, with women being denied equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Women are also disproportionately affected by poverty, violence, and discrimination.

“As Nigerian women, it is our duty to continue the fight for gender equality (with a little moderation in marriage).

“We must work together to break down the barriers that hold us back and create a society where women can thrive and achieve their full potential without wasting of valuable time on frivolity.

“Let us take inspiration from the courageous women who have come before us and use their legacy as a guiding light for our own struggles. Let us speak out against injustice and demand our rights as equal citizens of Nigeria.

“Together, we can create a brighter future for ourselves, our families, and our communities. Let us celebrate our achievements, but also recognize that our work is far from over.

“Happy International Women’s Day to all AGGSOGA members, today and always.

“Thank you.”

AGGSOGA Global Community is a discretionary community formed with the intention of supporting current students in Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar school Abeokuta, Ogun State in Nigeria to develop positive values and learning culture throughout the school society.
