A Brazilian mother has stabbed her 17-year-old son to death because he was gay.
She had earlier paid two thugs to kill her son, but decided to do it by herself after the pair failed to do so, police have revealed.
Police said the woman, Tatiana Lozano Pereira, 32, admitted to killing her son, Itaberli Lozano, in Cravinhos, Sao Paulo.
According to local reports, Pereira had long rejected her son because he was gay.
They had a bitter quarrel during Christmas, after which Itaberli moved in with his grandmother.
Pereira later pretended to have forgiven him and, on December 29, urged him to return home.
However, she had secretly hired two hit men, Miller da Silva Barissa, 18, and Victor Roberto da Silva, 19, to kill him upon his return.
But, when the pair failed to do so, she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him to death, according to Helton Tosti Renz, the police officer in charge of the investigation.
Local media reports also said Pereira and her husband, Alex Pereira, 30, who was the victim’s stepfather, then took the body to an abandoned area and burned it.
It was the victim’s paternal grandmother that later reported his disappearance to police.
Officers, however, became suspicious because Tatiana had not reported him missing herself and seemed surprisingly indifferent about his disappearance.
The victim’s charred remains were eventually found on January 7, in a nearby field.
The woman, reportedly, confessed to the killing during a police interrogation.
