An unidentified woman reportedly parked a Ford Explorer on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, on Sunday evening and jumped into the lagoon.
Eyewitnesses posted pictures of the woman’s vehicle and video of the scene on social media, in a bid to alert those who might recognise it.
One of the photos shows that the vehicle is grey-coloured, with registration number APP 190 CE. Also, the particulars on the windshield suggest that the owner lives at Omole Phase 2 Estate, Lagos.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the incident happened at the University of Lagos end of the bridge, about 6 pm.
A Facebook user, Abike Wesey, however, claimed the vehicle belonged to her husband who was among those that witnessed the incident.
She said her husband and his companion had parked the vehicle and attempted to withhold the victim from taking the plunge but she had jumped before they could get to her.
She said the victim appeared to be in her mid-twenties or early thirties.
Her post read: “The car is ours. ….My husband post on the incident…..Suicides:
Earlier today I saw a young woman jump into the Lagos Lagoon (3rd Mainland bridge)! She must be around her mid-twenties and early thirties. I couldn’t help her, because before I could park and run to reach her together with another guy, but…”
Several commentators however punctured the woman’s claim, querying where her husband was at the time people surrounded the vehicle, taking shots and recording videos.
NewsmakersNG could also not confirm the victim’s identity from the police today as they said they were still searching for the body.
Police spokesman, SP Chike Oti, also said they only received the report of someone that jumped into the lagoon and nothing about a vehicle that was abandoned.
