A 39-year-old woman has been held by the police in Ogun State over alleged N100million fraud.
According to the police, Iwuagwu Onyinyechi was arrested for defrauding a church-based organization, MIA enterprise, of N100 million under the pretence of assisting the organization to raise fund for its charity programme.
The arrest of the suspect followed a petition written by the Lagos based lawyer of the organization Barrister Godswill Ojakovo to the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, in which he complained that his client was defrauded by the suspect through an act of forgery.
The suspect claimed to have an LPO from a company known as Location 3 properties and appealed to MIA organization to fund the LPO, after which N33, 118, 000 was transferred to her online.
While the organization was awaiting the repayment of the money, the suspect came with other LPOs she purportedly got from Ancillia Catholic Hospital, Iju and Holifull School, Ikorodu upon which another N77 million was given to her after showing relevant documents to back her claims.
He stated further in the petition that as soon as she got the last payment in September 2018, the suspect vanished. This prompted the church to make discreet enquiries about the LPOs submitted and found out that all the LPOs were forged ones.
Upon the petition, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Ahmed IIiyasu directed his Monitoring Team to go after the suspect and bring her to book.
The team technically tracked the suspect and got her arrested on January 21, 2019.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. She admitted that all the LPOs presented by her were all forged as most of the companies where she claimed to have gotten the LPOs were only imaginary.
Meanwhile, the CP has directed the monitoring team to arraign the suspect in court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
