Woman Allegedly Poisons 4 Step-children in Yobe … 3 Dead, One Battling for Life

The Yobe Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Khadija Yakubu, for allegedly poisoning and killing three of her stepchildren in Malaria Huta community, Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Dungus Abdulkareem, in a statement yesterday said that the suspect poisoned the tea drank by four children of her husband’s first wife.

The victims were identified as Umar Haruna, 12; Maryam Haruna, 11; Ahmed Haruna, nine and seven-year-old Zainab Haruna.

NewsmakersNG learned that the children were rushed to a hospital after taking the tea prepared by the suspect, Khadija Yakubu, in the early hours of yesteeday.

Three of the victims eventually died while the fourth one remained in critical condition.

“The suspect has been apprehended and is in custody. Investigation has begun to ascertain the remote and immediate cause of the incident. She will be charged after investigation,” Abdulkareem stated.
