Minutes after he was sworn in alongside 44 other ministers today, the new FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, unveiled his plan of action to give Abuja a face-lift and make it safe.
Addressing a press conference alongside top officials of his ministry in Abuja, Wike vowed to demolish illegal structures, enforce the payment of ground rent and compliance with the Abuja masterplan in order to restore the beauty of the city and show results within six months.
Insisting that illegal structures must go down, Wike said, “I will do it. Nothing will happen. Heaven will not fall.
“When I’m working, I don’t hear; I don’t think… Abuja must bubble again.”
He said that motor parks and markets must remain where they are meant to be, that government would take over abandoned buildings, identify dark spots and make Abuja hot for criminals.
He added that he would not allow cows within Abuja. “They must stay outside the city where the grass is.”
The minister also announced that motorcycles would not be allowed to operate. He pledged to provide alternatives, as he called on Nigerians to rally around President Bola Tinubu and work to make him succeed.
