He has recovered from criminals enough arms and ammunition that could equip a country’s army for a major battle.

Among his phenomenal feats are arrests of Nigeria’s most dreadful kidnappers and armed robbers, recoveries of rocket launchers, grenades, dynamites, General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), thousands of AK47 rifles, and loads of cash. It’s all in a day’s work for Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari.

Kyari has made a reputation as Nigeria’s most accomplished detective and crime buster who is always after the big bad wolves bringing sorrows into the happy lives of Nigerians and foreigners in the country.

Each time Kyari’s name is in the news, you can be sure there’s a big bust. He has a knack for solving difficult crimes through Intelligence-led policing.

Kyari, who is 46 years old today, told NewsmakersNG during a chance encounter years ago why he likes the big busts with all the risks involved.

He said, “I derive joy from cracking tough cases. That’s where I get my happiness. My happiest moment in life is any time I crack any of those pending cases or any case I’m following.

“Right from my childhood, I believe that whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well. So, I put my best into whatever I do and make sure that the case is solved. One must be focused. I just keep my eyes on the ball.

“I strive so hard that even when I’m in bed, a case is all that’s on my mind. I’ll just be thinking about it, until it’s solved. I’m unrelenting. I always believe there’s no perfect crime, and that there should be a way to crack these cases.

“You can get some leads from areas you don’t even expect. So many angles. It’s all about being focused, being determined, and being unrelenting.”
