A Lagos-based prophet has raised the alarm over increasing burden being shouldered by the Church because of the failure of Nigerian leaders.
According to the Superintendent of Motailatu Church of God, Dr James Akinadewo, the economic downturn in Nigeria is not an act of God but a failure of leadership.
He told NewsmakersNG in an interview: “You’ll see people suffering in this country blessed by God.
“God has done a lot for this country but leadership is our bane. Churches are now doing what the government should be doing. People now pray for what they should not be praying for – basic amenities that government should provide. It’s so sad. People are suffering in the midst of plenty. Frustration has peaked in the land.
“Parents are paying through the nose for children to go to school and some people are still trying to jerk up school fees. That is killing.
“In South Africa, from Crèche to University, it’s free education and free food. In advanced countries, they think of humanity. But here, it’s organized crimes against humanity by our leaders. They’re not helping us at all. Churches are now doing what the government should be doing. Leadership is our bane; wastefulness problem. Nothing good is coming from the government. We only hear of billions being embezzled every day.
‘God is not happy with Nigeria, because Nigeria is a disappointment.’
“In Brazil, the President was impeached just for budget padding. But here in Nigeria, those who are stealing us blind and rotting, they give them doctorate degrees. Until we change our orientation. God will never bless a nation where its laws are broken with impunity.
“A lot of things are happening. People are dying every day. In our hospitals, there’s nothing. If you go to government hospitals you’ll suffer before you can even get medical attention because the government is doing nothing, but they’re enjoying our commonwealth while Nigerians are suffering. This has to stop. This country belongs to God. God has given us everything for this country to be the best in the world, but our leaders are just wicked. They’re not helping the masses at all. This is wrong, and it has to change because this country belongs to God and people are to enjoy it.
“When we had no oil, we got free education through Awolowo, but now we have abundance and people are suffering. This servitude attitude of our leaders has to change. If we don’t do things the right way, we cannot get the right results.”
Rev. Akinadewo, whose church is set to hold its annual adoption and Harvest Thanksgiving, on December 2, at Motailatu Road, off Ogundele Avenue, Ogo Oluwa Bus Stop, Oke-Ira, Ogba, in Lagos, said, “When we held a programme for some youths and children, you need to see the crowd. We fed over 5000. We have taken over 20000 people off the streets in Lagos. Those who were called Area Boys, we now call them Jesus Boys. We want the best for them because they are not getting anything from the government. You’re not providing for education, jobs; you’re not providing anything. In the North now, over 20 million unemployed, but employable Nigerians who are there are time bombs. The leaders appear unconcerned. The bible says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven.”
Rev Akinadewo added, “God is not happy with Nigeria, because Nigeria is a disappointment.
“See how wasteful we have been. Until we change. Our leaders must change. They must have human feelings to do the right things for Nigerians. It is then we will get there.”
