A dazed and confused Anthony Joshua reportedly asked his corner ‘why am I feeling like this?’ in worrying footage from his shock defeat by Andy Ruiz Jnr in New York on Saturday night, Daily Mail has reported.
A Twitter user user, Tom Costello, also tweeted a footage of this defining moment in the fight.
See Costello’s tweet below:
The Mexican – who only took on the fight with six weeks’ notice – achieved one of the greatest upsets ever seen in boxing to take Joshua’s WBA, WBO and IBF belts with a seventh round stoppage at Madison Square Garden.
But the impact of Ruiz’s punches gave cause for concern as Joshua showed signs of potential psychological damage in the latter stages of the fight.
He was eventually cleared of lasting damage by a brain scan in the dressing room immediately after the contest but there were worrying signs nonetheless.
The former British heavyweight champion was knocked down twice in the third round of the frantic contest
At the end of the fifth round, a dazed Joshua turned round to ask his corner what round it was as he lost track
Following the sixth, he was heard saying ‘why am I feeling like this?’ before the fight ended in round seven.
