As artificial intelligence becomes a central force in the evolution of cyber threats and digital defences, Africa’s leading cyber security event — the 20th annual ITWeb Security Summit — will confront this duality head-on in Cape Town (27–28 May) and Johannesburg (3–5 June).
From powering advanced cyber attacks to enabling faster threat detection and response, AI sits at the heart of today’s most urgent security debates. This year’s summit will bring together over 60 international, African, and local experts to explore how AI is shaping a new era of digital risk — and how organisations can adapt with resilience and foresight.
“Cyber resilience in the age of AI is not just a technical issue – it’s a strategic imperative,” says Lisa Lawlor, Events Director at ITWeb. “This year’s agenda highlights the need for both innovation and strategic foresight in defending against next-generation cyber threats.”
Topics at the summit will examine both the dangers and opportunities AI presents:
How attackers are weaponising AI and automation.
The use of machine learning in proactive threat detection.
The enduring role of human error in security breaches.
Building Zero Trust environments in an AI-driven landscape.
Securing supply chains and preparing for quantum threats.
The emerging challenge of cyber threats targeting space-based infrastructure.
Global thought leaders will headline the summit, including:
Jeff Moss, founder of DEF CON and Black Hat, delivering a rare perspective on global cyber security trends.
Tope Olufon, Senior Analyst at Forrester, on AI’s role in fraud prevention, decentralised identity, and modern IAM.
Dr Bianca Lins, from Liechtenstein’s Space Department, addressing the legal and strategic gaps in space cyber defence.
Siobhan Gorman, Partner at Brunswick Group, forecasting how AI and geopolitics will fuel cyber risk in 2025.
Martin Koyabe, from the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise – Africa, spotlighting regional vulnerabilities and policy gaps under the AU’s Malabo Convention.
Dmitry Berezin, Kaspersky specialist, examining where AI shines — and where it still falls short — in cyber defence.
Not Just Talks: Innovation and Talent Take the Stage
The summit will host a technology exhibition, showcasing the latest cyber security tools and innovations, alongside the new ITWeb TV booth for live interviews with keynote speakers and industry leaders.
In Johannesburg, the #SS25HACK hackathon will run in parallel, engaging students, tech entrepreneurs, and cyber enthusiasts in solving real-world problems under expert mentorship — fuelling the next wave of African cyber talent.
