The newly elected President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Prof. Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa has promised to run the new administration on the NURTW policy thrust based on fiscal prudence.
He spoke on the occasion of the inauguration of the new National Administrative Council of the Union held on August 29 at the Nigeria Air Force Conference Centre in Abuja.
He said, “To achieve this goal, I am going to run an all-inclusive administration. The new administration intends to carry out comprehensive restructuring and reorganization of all departments and organs of the Union for optimum performance in addition to ensuring that we put the square pegs in square holes.
Alhaji Baruwa also said his administration would not tolerate redundancy while maintaining zero tolerance for corruption or sharp practices.
He added, “The welfare of elected officers, career officers and all staff including members shall be on our priority list. Meanwhile, every loophole, leakages and conduit pipes shall be closed. We will review all MoUs, new appointments, contract agreement entered into after the 15th of May, 2019 to make sure the terms and conditions of some agreements are in conformity with the Constitution and condition of service of the Union.”
He assured his members that all the six zonal councils and 36 state councils including the FCT Abuja will be conducted in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the Union as enshrined in Article 14, Section 5, subsection (1) and Article 16, Section 1.
