We Were Told Only 20% of Allocated Fund Was Spent on Govt Contract – Oyo Gov, Makinde

Ololade Adeyanju/

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has alleged that the immediate past administration in the state spent only 20 percent of allocated funds on contracts for which the funds were earmarked, while the balance was shared between the governor, the appointee who allocated the project and the governor’s wife.

The governor disclosed this during an interview session being broadcast live on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State to commemorate his 100 days in office.

Makinde said this realisation was a major reason for the decision of his administration to set up the Oyo State Financial Crimes Commission.

He vowed that anyone who engaged in any form financial malpractice in the present administration would be brought to book.

His words: “I declared my assets because I want to be held accountable. What we met on ground is a situation where a project for which money is allocated, gets only about 10 percent of the total funds for execution.

“Because as we were told, 50 percent goes back to the Governor, 30 percent to the appointee who allocated the project out of which 10 percent goes to the Governor’s wife. I have told them anyone who does that now will be brought to book.

“This is a very serious problem. That is why the second bill we sent to the House of Assembly was the Oyo State Financial Crimes Commission Bill and once they pass it, I will sign it and and we will all operate under it.”
