Residents of Itokin, Agbowa, Iyana Mortuary and Ogbere communities in Ogun State have praised the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Adegoke Fayoade, in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, for what they described as a decisive crackdown that rescued them from years of violent criminal attacks.

For a long time, the affected communities had reportedly lived under fear, with residents accusing armed robbers, ritualists, murderers and cultists of unleashing terror, snatching valuables, attacking commuters, and, in some cases, killing innocent people.

Some residents, according to a PM News report, said repeated complaints to local police formations yielded little relief, forcing them to live with constant anxiety and insecurity.

However, the situation, they said, changed after they formally petitioned the Zone 2 Command, prompting what they described as a swift and coordinated response from AIG Fayoade.

According to the residents, the intervention led to multiple arrests, weapons recovery and a noticeable return of calm to the communities.

“Since then, we have been able to sleep with both eyes closed,” one resident was quoted as saying, describing the renewed sense of safety as “a major relief” for families who had endured years of dread.

The residents also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for what they called his foresight in deploying AIG Fayoade to the Zone 2 Command, a move they believe has strengthened security in the axis and boosted confidence in law enforcement.

Police situation reports revealed that the breakthrough was recorded between November 24 and December 1, 2025, following petitions from residents who complained of “unbearable” attacks and insecurity in their areas.

AIG Fayoade, the reports said, immediately directed a special tactical operation led by the Commander of the Zonal Dragon Squad, SUPOL Adeyemi Akeem, to track down the criminal elements behind the violence.

During the operation, police stormed a suspected hideout of the Aye Confraternity cult group and arrested five suspects, including a herbalist believed to be linked to the group’s activities.

Those arrested were identified as Adewale Adejumo (aka Shadex, 42), Sunday Luky (aka Otega, 36), Mathew Charles (aka Paleji, 29), Adeniji Osipitu (aka Awo, 36), and Fasasi Abiola (aka Honey Boy, 31), said to be a herbalist.

Recovered items, according to police, included one double-barrel shotgun, one single-barrel shotgun, a dagger, a battle axe and cutlasses.

In a separate operation on November 28, the Zonal Dragon Squad smatched another gang accused of attacking passengers in commercial vehicles and throwing victims out of moving cars around the Abeokuta axis.

Police identified the suspects as Fadare Olusegun, Tanimowo Sodiq and Soetan Isa.
Items recovered from the suspects included one locally made cut-to-size pistol, one single-barrel pistol, a Micra car allegedly used for operations with registration number KSH 793 XA, and four Android phones.

The operation later shifted to Ogbere on December 1, where police invaded another hideout linked to cult-related killings, including the alleged murder of a police constable, Kamorudeen Olalekan, and another victim.
Fourteen suspects were arrested, including Daniel Friday, Emmanuel Olajuwon, Adebayo Adekola, Adetayo Oluwaseun, Onasanya Opeoluwa, and nine others.

Recovered items, police said, were one locally made single-barrel pistol, two battle axes, cutlasses, daggers, charms, 15 mobile phones and ₦72,000.

Prosecution Underway
Police authorities confirmed that one of the suspects has already been charged to court, while others remain under interrogation.

They added that upon completion of investigations, all suspects involved would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

For residents of the once-troubled communities, the message is simple: the fear is lifting, and the streets are beginning to feel safe again.
