Authorities in Brazil have raised the alarm over a convicted Italian terrorist that could be hiding in Nigeria or another African nation.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the Italian leftist, terrorist, asylum seeker and international convict, Cesari Batista, has been declared wanted by the Brazilian police and placed on the watch list of Interpol, since he refused to submit himself to the police for extradition to face a life sentence slammed on him by the Italian court for an alleged participation in several acts of terrorism and homicides in Italy and France.
According to the authorities, Batista fled from Italy after assassinating two police officers and two men at their places of work.
He also allegedly committed several homicides in France, where he lived after escaping from Italy. He later fled to Mexico and then arrived in Brazil in 2007 where he was granted an asylum by the then President of Brazil, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva.
The Italian government, however, appealed against the asylum granted to Batista in Brazil, and the current rightist leader of Brazil has disagreed with the asylum earlier granted to the convict by the former leftist leader. The president has authoritatively decreed an immediate extradition of the Italian convict to face the justice in his home country, Italy.
According to the police, Batista has fled his residence in the South Coast of São Paolo, Brazil where he lived and worked as a writer since he was granted asylum and there are speculations that the said terrorist has chosen Africa as the next hidden place to run and hide from the authorities and the international police.
The Federal police have released an identikit poster showing several photos of how the terrorist could look in disguise.
Meanwhile, all African nations and police authorities, including Nigeria, have been placed on alert to identify and arrest the Italian convict if spotted in any of the countries.
According to the police, the convict will no longer try to escape to Europe, Asia or even to the Central or North American nations, meaning that the possible hideouts could be Africa.
NewsmakersNG learnt that Nigeria has been informed along with the other African nations, including South Africa, Angola and Egypt.
