Wanted Ex-minister, Uche Nnaji, Arrested at Abuja Airport over Alleged Certificate Forgery

Former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has been taken into custody by operatives of the Department of State Services and later handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over allegations bordering on certificate forgery.

Security and airport sources confirmed that Nnaji was arrested on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja shortly after arriving from Enugu on a chartered flight.

He was subsequently moved into DSS custody before being transferred to the ICPC for further interrogation as investigations into the allegations intensify.

The development follows weeks of legal and investigative moves against the former minister.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier granted the ICPC an ex parte order authorising his arrest and permitting the agency to declare him wanted after he reportedly failed to respond to multiple invitations for questioning.

According to court filings, the commission told the court that repeated efforts to get Nnaji to appear for investigative sessions were unsuccessful, prompting the request for judicial backing to proceed with enforcement actions.

The ICPC is investigating allegations that the former minister presented questionable academic credentials during his public service career, a matter that has drawn renewed attention in recent weeks.

The DSS and ICPC have yet to issue an official public statement on the arrest at the time of filing this report.
