A Zambian man has tragically ran over his friend’s one-year-old son, killing him as he was reversing in the family’s driveway

Police Spokesperson, Esther Katongo, said in a statement that a 33 year old immigration officer, Joshua Sing’ombe, had gone to visit his colleague, Patrick Phiri, in St Edmonds area of Mazabuka, yesterday morning, when the incident happened.

Local newspaper, Mwebantu, quoted Katongo as saying that Sing’ombe accidentally ran over the baby who was crawling within the compound as he was leaving his host’s residence.

“The accident happened when the driver reversed negligently and in the process hit the child,” Katongo said.

She said due to the impact, the child sustained suspected internal injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

Katongo added the child’s body has been deposited in Mazabuka General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
