Activities have been paralysed in some parts of Lagos due to clashes between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and officials of the state’s Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences.
The people were reportedly injured in confrontations which began this afternoon around Egbeda in Alimosho local government area and immediately spread to adjoining areas, including Ile-Epo Alhaji and Igando.
According to eyewitnesses, the affected areas have been deserted while motorist are using alternative routes.
An eyewitness wrote on a social media platform: “Warning!!! Iyana Ipaja to Ikotun route is currently no go area and a death trap as I just passed (through) there now… A serious violence has just erupted between task force police, Danfo operators and area boys.. There is sporadic shooting everywhere.. Please use alternate route and re-posts, please.”
Police, however, said calm had been restored in the areas where the clashes took place.
Police spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, told NewsmakersNG on the phone that 10 persons have also been arrested.
He said the NURTW members had some disagreements with the mobile courts, which usually accompany the Task Force personnel during their patrols, but police promptly brought the situation under control.
A similar clash had created pandemonium and caused panic in some parts of Lagos Mainland last week.
