Video: Police, Shiite Muslims Clash in Abuja

Segun Atanda/

Here are clips of today’s confrontation, in Abuja, between the police and members of the Shiite Islamic sect who have been demanding for the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who is in the custody of the DSS.

One of the windows shattered by bullet from the scene.

Sporadic shots were heard and the police used hot water canon and tear gas to disperse the riotous catapult wielding sect members, who also used sticks and cudgels. The police recently warned members of the sect not to hold unauthorised religious rally in the Federal Capital Territory.

Police authorities told NewsmakersNG that 115 members of the sect have been arrested in connection with the protest..
