A group of Oyo indigenes were on the premises of the Oyo State High Court in Oyo town, today, to protest against how the Oyomesi had handled the Alaafin selection process.

Some the placards read, “Oyomesi, Follow Tradition; Not Money,” one of the bigger banners held at the protest read. The protesters chanted the same message.

Other banners and cardboard placards showed different words conveying similar messages directed at the Oyomesi.

“Alaafin Stool Is Not for Sale… Our Ancestors Demand for a Good Alaafin… Oyomesi, We Want Due Process… Governor Makinde, Free Us From Corrupt Oyomesi… On Alaafin, Let Dignity Reign… Ifa Consultation Is Sacrosanct,” some of the banners read.

Meanwhile, the Court adjourned till Thursday, November 2, for hearing a case instituted by five kingmakers against the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, the state Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters, as well as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, over the vacant stool of Alaafin of Oyo.

Newsmakerslive.org reported that the kingmakers in Oyo town, popularly known as Oyomesi, have dragged the governor and two others to Court, claiming the defendants planned to abort the process for the selection/appointment of the candidate for filling the vacant stool of Alaafin of Oyo.

The claimants are Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola, Laguna of Oyo; High Chief Wakeel Oyedepo; Akiniku of Oyo, High Chief Amuda Yusuf; Areago Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Wahab Oyetunji and warrant chief for Ashipa of Oyo; and Alapo of Oyo and Warrant Officer for Alaapini of Oyo, Chief Gbadebo Mufutau.

All the claimants were present in Court.
