A video circulating on social media has sparked outrage after allegedly showing Lagos highway officials dumping waste into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge towards Oworonshoki.
The footage, widely shared online, shows individuals believed to be government workers tipping refuse directly into the water, raising concerns about pollution and environmental oversight in the city.
Social media influencer, Daniel Regha, drew attention to the video on X, tagging Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, and questioning whether the footage was authentic or AI-generated.
In response, Wahab confirmed the incident had been addressed internally.
“Thank you for your feedback. This has been addressed internally,” he wrote, without providing further details on the actions taken or the individuals involved.
The incident has reignited calls for greater transparency and accountability in Lagos’s environmental enforcement.
Advocates warn that illegal dumping threatens public health, contributes to flooding, and damages the state’s waterways.
While the ministry’s internal handling suggests swift action, residents and environmental campaigners continue to seek clarity on enforcement outcomes to ensure such violations are effectively deterred.
