A school in India, Roorkee Institute of Technology in Uttarakhand, has allegedly hired 30 men from a private security company to beat up a male Nigerian student for breaking its quarantine rule.

The student, identified as Ibrahim Diaby Muhammed, reportedly suffered a serious head injury during unprovoked assault and has been hospitalised.

According to online reports, some fellow students recorded the incident and shared it on social media

Narrating what transpired, one of the students, who was not identified, stated: “The school requires every student to take an outpass all the time, especially during this pandemic, in order to monitor our movements to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“The school kept us on lockdown for four months, which was at first understandable, but they eventually stopped providing our necessities.

“Ibrahim (victim) went out with a friend to buy some foodstuff and toiletries. They were disinfected and tested for the virus which came out negative.

“The matter appeared to have been settled and everything was fine until the early hours of today when 30 men stormed the hostel to beat him up.

“We learnt that the men were hired by the school management from a certain security company.”
