A video documentary released early today by BBC Africa has established alleged culpability of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in the horror explosion that rocked Abule Ado community on the outskirts of Lagos in March this year.
At least 23 people were confirmed dead in the explosion which occurred on a Sunday morning, while properties worth hundreds of millions were also destroyed.
The NNPC had claimed that the explosion was triggered by a gas leakage from a domestic gas filling plant after a truck ran into it.
But undercover investigation by a BBC Africa Eye team, which included Nigerian award winning investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, concluded that the explosion was caused by a damaged petroleum pipeline.
The investigation revealed that the integrity of the pipeline had compromised due to inadequate maintenance by the NNPC before the tragic incident.
