Video: How my Family, Domestic Workers Survived COVID-19 – Peter Okoye

Singer, Peter Okoye of the famed P Square group, who is now known as “Mr P” has narrated how himself, wife, seven-year-old daughter and two domestic workers (a cook and a nanny) recovered from COVID-19 recently.

The singer, in a video he shared on his social media pages, yesterday, recounted his family’s experience while self-isolating in their home.

In the 18 minutes clip, Peter disclosed that he feared that his family might not survive the ordeal, especially after his daughter too contracted the disease.

He said, ‘”For the past three weeks, I have been ill and most people didn’t even know what was wrong with me. I kept it to myself. It has been three weeks of hell for me and my family. I had COVID19 for about three weeks and it happened to me. I was sick and I tested positive. It’s been hell for this family in this house. Not just I, even two of my domestic workers.

“After a week, my daughter caught the virus as well. It was sad that when she caught it, the doctor insisted that she has to be self-isolated in her room. I couldn’t even see my sick daughter, I felt so bad because I felt that I am the one who actually brought the virus to the house. It was so bad that I had to be calling her on video, checking on her.”

The musician, who broke down in tears at some point, was also full of praises for his wife, who damned the risk involved to take care of their little girl.

“The next day, my wife did something very courageous. She picked our daughter from her room, held her and took her to the master bedroom and she called me and she started crying. I asked her what happened and she said ‘I’ll rather contract COVID-19 than allow this little girl to suffer’.

“Five or six days later, my daughter was pronounced negative. When she was pronounced negative, we knew it wasn’t going to end there. The next day, Lola became positive.

“It’s been three weeks in hell in this house. This virus is real, it’s like I eventually saw death. It got to a point where I said this is it. The good thing is that we have all been tested negative. If you think this virus is fake or you don’t know anyone who has had the experience, I, Peter Okoye tell you that it’s real.”
