Video: How Bandits Killed Former Zamfara APC Guber Aspirant Along Abuja-Kaduna Highway

A footage of how Sagir Hamida, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and an ex-governorship aspirant in Zamfara State 2015 and 2019 was shot dead at Rijana on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, on Sunday night, has surfaced online.

Hamida, who held the traditional title of ‘Sarkin Rafin Gusau,’ had retired as a director at Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) before joining politics.

He was also the proprietor of FAMAKS British Schools in Abuja and Kaduna.

His brother, Surajo Hamida, told reporters in Kaduna that

According to reports the police orderly of the politician was among dozens of persons also abducted by the bandits on the highway during the incident.

NewsmakersNG learnt that Hamida was hit by the bandit’s bullets after his driver hastily made a U-turn to escape a blockade by the bandits. Unknown to the travellers, the area was entirely fortified by the bandits.

He was reportedly hit on the chest and leg while his driver escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has described Hamida’s death killed as shocking and devastating.

Matawalle, in a statement, today, by his Director-General, Media, Public Enlightenment and Communications, Yusuf Idris, said the death came to him as a shock.

He said that the deceased was one of Zamfara’s promising politicians with a good vision for the enhancement of self-reliance, especially among youths.

“Sagir Hamida will be remembered for his various contributions to the political and socio-economic growth of the state where he left a wide gap that will be difficult to fill.

“Death is inevitable, but losing a worthy son like Hamida is a great loss and very painful.

“His contributions will remain indelible in the minds of the people of the state,’’ Matawalle was quoted as saying.

Matawalle prayed God to accept his soul in heaven.

The governor extended his condolence to the Gusau Emirate Council, the deceased’s immediate family, the good people, and the government of Zamfara.
