A disturbing eyewitness video has surfaced showing the aftermath of the abduction of Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The footage, recorded by a witness shortly after the incident, has added a human face to a kidnapping that has once again raised concerns about the worsening security situation in parts of Oyo State.

According to information released by the Adelabu family, the victims were abducted by armed men at about 7.30am on Wednesday while Mrs John-Paul was taking her sons to school in the Challenge area of Ibadan.

The family said security agencies were immediately alerted and investigations commenced without delay.

In a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the family appealed for calm and urged members of the public to refrain from circulating unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing rescue efforts.

Mrs John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of five children of Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

She previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year.

She had relocated to Ibadan with her children and was preparing to join her husband, Mr John Paul, who resides in the United States.

Additional reports indicate that the victims were travelling from the Elewura area towards the expressway when the attackers struck and whisked them away.

The family expressed confidence in the capacity of security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims, noting that operatives had already swung into action and commenced preliminary investigations.

The incident has reignited public concern over a spate of kidnappings in Oyo State, particularly around Ibadan and adjoining communities.

Only days ago, Governor Seyi Makinde reassured residents that security agencies were working round the clock to rescue dozens of teachers and pupils abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

The governor urged citizens to remain united and support ongoing rescue operations as authorities intensify efforts to free the victims.

The latest abduction also follows several other high-profile kidnapping incidents recorded in Ibadan this year, including the abduction of a 12-year-old schoolgirl in the Challenge area in February and the kidnapping of businesswoman Adetutu Aderibigbe in April, both of which prompted major police investigations.

Security experts say the emergence of eyewitness videos and surveillance footage can sometimes assist investigations.

Earlier this year, police in Ondo State successfully tracked and arrested suspected kidnappers after a viral CCTV recording helped identify members of a kidnapping syndicate.

As the search for Mrs John-Paul and her children continues, the Adelabu family has appealed to Nigerians to support ongoing rescue efforts through prayers and by providing any useful information to security agencies.
