Charity, as people say, begins at home.
But that appears not to be the case with Senator Buruji Kashamu, whose nephew was captured in a trending video begging on a street at Shitta area of Surulere in Lagos.
Kashamu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has been running a philanthropic organization known as Omoilu Foundation for about 10 years, donating money, cars, motorcycles, equipment, and food items to people.
The young man in the video described as Kashamu’s nephew is, however, homeless and starving.

According to information on the website of Kashamu’s Foundation, Omoilu is committed to improving the quality of life for disadvantaged Nigerians, by supporting primarily health and education interventions implemented by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs), youth organizations, women’s groups and similar groups working in Nigeria.
The Foundation, which doles out food items to hundreds of poor people in Ogun was established in 2009.
In 2010, the Foundation became fully operational and has continued to make grants.
