One of the boats conveying officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and materials for the Ondo State Governorship election has capsized in Ilaje Local Government Area.
ln a video shared online, the affected staff could be seen swimming to join other boats, while some were trying to salvage the election materials.
Local divers also reportedly helped in rescuing the victims.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the accident was caused by overloading.
Speaking on the incident, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said that a statement will be issued in due course.
He however said that the commission got report that there was no casualty as all the victims were rescued.
“I am told all our ad-Hoc staff were safely evacuated,” Oyekanmi said.
