More death has been recorded in Lagos as a second vehicle in less than 48 hours plunged into the lagoon, killing one of the occupants.
A similar incident involving a luxury bus at the Mile 12 area of Lagos was reported on Friday, when three lives were lost.
Officials of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), local divers, and the Marine police were involved in the rescue operation at the Mekwen River, near Bonny Camp, at Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to the rescue workers, a woman identified as Chinagorom Adibe Fustine was trapped and drowned with the car, but the driver, one Felix Aniele swan to safety.
NEMA spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye said emergency workers rushed to the scene when the agency received a distress call regarding the accident at about 7:47 pm.
The car involved was identified as a silver colour Kia Rio marked MUS 38 BL.
The car was later pulled out of the lagoon with the victim’s body.
“The recovery operations was enhanced with the use of LASEMA heavy duty equipment. The recovered car has since been towed to Bar Beach Police Station, while the dead body had been deposited at the Mainland Hospital Mortuary,” the General Manager at LASEMA, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, said.
He added that full scale investigation surrounding the incident would be conducted by appropriate authorities.
He urged motorists to observe utmost safety while plying the road.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace.
However, what could have led to such accidents with 48 hours? Could it be attributed to bad roads or over speeding? Thorough investigation should be able to establish the course and solutions or solutions provided to guide against future accident occurrence.
