Seven men abducted when kidnappers allegedly hijacked a boat in Lagos have been rescued by members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
According to the VGN’s deputy commandant in charge of operations in Lagos, Mr Ayede Santos, the kidnappers initially abducted seven men and two women who were being ferried from a place called Totowu to Isuti in Igando and Ewedogbon on the outskirts of Lagos. They later dropped the women at Agbara junction where the vigilantes were alerted.
Newsmakers learnt that policemen who also received the distress call couldn’t go after the kidnappers because they could not operate on water.
The vigilantes who volunteered to go after the kidnappers eventually found their location, dislodged them and rescued the seven victims.
Santos told Newsmakers that one locally made pistol, four life jackets, packets of cigarettes; shoes and a laptop recovered along with the hijacked boat were handed over to the police at Iba Police Post.
