The U.S. Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, citing the potential for protests in Nigeria’s capital city.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the embassy said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure due to security concerns in Abuja.

It did not provide details about the nature or scale of the anticipated demonstrations.

Applicants affected by the cancellation will be contacted directly with instructions on how to reschedule their appointments, the embassy said.

It also advised visa applicants and members of the public to monitor its official website and social media platforms for further updates.

For emergency assistance, the embassy urged U.S. citizens and other individuals requiring urgent help to call +234 209 461 4328 or visit its official website for guidance.

Security advisories and temporary suspension of consular services are common measures taken by diplomatic missions during periods of heightened tension or anticipated unrest, particularly in capital cities where protests can disrupt movement and public services.
