U.S. Congressman, Riley Moore, speaking on Fox News, has pressed the Nigerian government to act immediately in protecting Christian communities, warning that President Donald Trump “is serious about ending the ongoing slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.”

Moore, a Republican lawmaker from West Virginia, said the issue was not merely national policy but a moral imperative.

He labelled the targeting of Christians in Nigeria as “a violation of human rights that borders on genocide,” citing statistics suggesting that approximately 7,000 Christians were slain in Nigeria in the current year alone.

“Don’t test President Trump’s resolve — he is serious,” Moore declared, calling on Nigeria’s authorities to partner with the United States in halting the violence and protecting those persecuted for their faith.

Moore’s remarks come as President Trump has designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” under U.S. religious-freedom policy and has signalled that diplomatic, economic or even military measures may follow if Nigeria continues to allow extremist groups to butcher Christians with impunity.

Nigeria’s government, for its part, rejects the characterisation of “Christian genocide,” arguing that the violence in the country affects both Christians and Muslims amid complex insurgencies, herder-farmer conflicts and militant activity.

In introducing a House resolution, Moore urged his Congressional colleagues across party lines to support using all available tools, diplomatic, humanitarian, security-based, to hold perpetrators accountable, assist displaced Christian communities and press the Nigerian government to fulfil its obligations.

The stakes, representatives say, go beyond religious freedom. They suggest that if Nigeria fails to act, its international standing and relationship with the United States could suffer, and Western aid may be altered or withdrawn.
