Updated: 4 Dead as Gunman Opens Fire in US Bank

Ololade Adeyanju & Agency Reports/

Four persons, including the shooter, have been confirmed dead in today’s shooting at the headquarters of Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, US.

Two others were also reportedly injured in the latest in a series of shooting incidents in the country.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the shooter entered the loading dock area of the 30-storey building and opened fire at about 9am.

Mayor John Cranley said the suspect entered the lobby area, where three to four officers exchanged gunfire him. He said police officers shot and killed the suspect.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officials are on scene and are working to sweep the building, spokesperson Suzanne Dabkowski also disclosed

Police said the situation is no longer active, and a suspect is also in custody.

“I heard about eight gunshots, and I actually got on my knees. I kind of got down on the ground and then all the cops started coming,” witness James Walker told CNN affiliate WLWT. “I’m still shaking.”

“It started out apparently with an active shooter at the Fifth Third tower, there was an officer intervention and from there now it’s just victims and things like that,” a Cincinnati officer told a CNN affiliate

The motive of the shooting is unclear. Streets and sidewalks around Fountain Square were closed.

Police earlier characterized it as an “active shooter/officer involved shooting incident” in a tweet, but did not elaborate.
