Updated: Tribunal Upholds Gov Ganduje’s Election, Describes PDP’s Petition as Contradictory

Malik Yahya/

The Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal presided over by Justice Halima Shamaki has upheld the election of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and dismissed the petition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf.

While delivering its ruling, the Tribunal had described the petition challenging the election of Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress as contradictory.

The PDP and Abba Kabir-Yusuf had challenged the declaration of Ganduje as the winner of the March 23, governorship election in Kano State.

But tribunal had noted that: “The participation of the petitioners in the 23rd March re-run election amounts to waiver of the claims of the winning March 9 election.”

It had further noted that: “The reliefs sought by the petitioners are contradictory and mutually exclusive. They cannot be granted because they are not sought for in the alternative.”
