Newly elected president of University of Osun Alumni Association, Mr Aboderin Ademuyiwa, has called on rivals in the just concluded association election to accept the outcome for the peace and progress of the institution.
Ademuyiwa at a press briefing said his statement followed a media report calling on the Osun State university to annul the election that brought him in as president of the Alumni Association.
He said, “On the 28th of April, we held our alumni association congress at the main campus, Oke Baale, Osogbo. We were three contestants for the post of President; myself – Aboderin Ademuyiwa Aduragbemi, Oriola Oladipupo, and Ijoba Idris. At the venue of the congress, 88 members were accredited while 81 cast their votes.
“After the voting, the following results were received by the electoral chairman, Mr Owolabi Ayasanmi. I, Aboderin Ademuyiwa scored 33 votes, Oriola Oladipupo scored 30 while Ijoba Idris scored 07 votes. By the guidelines of our constitution which is on article 15Ax, victory at the election shall be by simple majority. The electoral chairman declared me as the winner and newly elected President with immediate effect.”
Reacting to the allegations in the said publication, Mr. Ademuyiwa said he had contacted his lawyer to sue those behind the publication.
“On Monday May 7th 2018, a non registered NGO, People’s Advocacy Vanguard, published a falsehood in the newspapers and online platform to mislead the public that the election process was marred with irregularities. I want to state clearly that this information is false, the electoral process was conducted under free, fair and peaceful environment; all aspirants were screened. Infact the electoral chairman Mr Owolabi is an icon of transparency and accountability. Let me also clear the air on allegations that the management were instrumental to my electoral victory. I do not know anyone in the university management and as a matter of fact, the management did not contribute anything to our congress process, except the hall they gave us free for the election. I am a graduate of Economics with second class upper Division from Osun State University and currently student of postgraduate studies in Economics at University of Lagos Akoka Yaba, Lagos. I currently work with Planet Project Ltd (transportation infrastructure, engineering and procurement organization.
“My advice is eschew politics of bitterness and stay away from malicious character assassination . I call on all to receive the hand of fellowship that I have extended. Our association and university at this stage need everyone to come together for us to achieve meaningful developments”
