A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom, Blessing Ngozi Chibuike, has publicly appealed for urgent help after her husband removed her from his Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), prompting the UK Home Office to issue a 60-day ultimatum for her to secure a new visa or leave the country.

In an emotional video circulating on X, Chibuike tearfully revealed her situation, saying, “My husband has taken me out of his CoS,” and pleaded with viewers for assistance.

The footage has since sparked widespread conversation within the Nigerian expatriate community, drawing sympathy from some and scepticism from others.

Under UK immigration rules, dependants whose sponsorship is withdrawn automatically lose the basis of their stay, forcing them to either regularise their immigration status or exit the country.

The Home Office typically issues a 60-day curtailment notice, giving affected individuals time to apply for a new visa or make departure arrangements.

Legal experts explain that such cases often follow marital or relationship breakdowns, leaving sponsored partners vulnerable without independent residency rights.

According to immigration guidance, failure to act within the curtailment period can lead to loss of legal status and possible re-entry bans.

Chibuike’s plea has reignited debate over the fragility of spousal and dependent visas in the UK, particularly among migrants from Nigeria and other Commonwealth countries.

Advocacy groups have called for reforms that would allow dependants facing abuse or abandonment to apply for temporary protection rather than face immediate deportation.
