Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, continues to shape the next generation of banking and finance professionals across the continent through its Graduate Management Acceleration Programme (GMAP).

To date, the initiative has produced over 3,222 young professionals, equipping them with the skills and experience needed to excel in the financial sector.

Since its inception three years ago, GMAP has provided mentorship, training, and hands-on experience, preparing young graduates for leadership roles within UBA. On Wednesday, the bank celebrated another milestone by inducting 1,138 successful graduates at a ceremony held at the Landmark Event Centre. The new cohort was absorbed into the bank following months of intensive training designed to test their dedication, resilience, and expertise.

The momentous occasion was graced by UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, alongside other Board Members, Executive Management, faculty members, mentors, and the families and friends of the graduates.

Speaking at the event, Elumelu emphasized the bank’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and bridging Africa’s unemployment gap.

“At UBA, we believe that Africa’s transformation lies in the hands of young, dynamic, and ambitious professionals like you. Through GMAP, we are not just shaping future leaders but also reinforcing our commitment to excellence and impact. Success is built on hard work, resilience, and continuous learning. The world is waiting for you to make your mark,” Elumelu stated.

Echoing this sentiment, Alawuba expressed immense pride in the graduates and reiterated UBA’s dedication to human capital development.

“This marks the beginning of a transformational journey that will shape your careers, your contributions to society, and Africa as a whole. GMAP is a testament to our vision of empowering the brightest minds with the skills, knowledge, and mindset required to navigate the evolving financial landscape,” he said.

Alawuba also highlighted UBA’s commitment to gender diversity and inclusion, noting that 666 of the 1,138 graduates (58%) are women—a reflection of the bank’s dedication to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace.

Encouraging the graduates, he urged them to uphold UBA’s core values of Excellence, Enterprise, and Execution, while embracing the bank’s persona of Simplicity, Responsiveness, and Goal-oriented (SRG).
