The United States has launched a major military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, with three key sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—suffering extensive damage.
President Donald Trump announced the strikes in a dramatic post on Truth Social, describing them as a “very successful attack” and celebrating the precision and effectiveness of U.S. forces.
“A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors,” Trump wrote, adding, “NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!”
The operation, conducted with advanced B‑2 stealth bombers and submarine-launched Tomahawk missiles, marks a significant escalation in U.S.-Iran tensions. Six GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOPs) were used to target Fordow, a heavily fortified underground facility, while Natanz and Isfahan were struck with a combination of bunker-busters and Tomahawk missiles. Military sources confirmed that all aircraft returned safely, and no U.S. personnel were lost during the mission.
Iranian state media acknowledged the strikes, confirming damage at all three sites but downplaying the extent of destruction. The Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported no radiation leaks, suggesting that enriched uranium stockpiles were either limited or successfully neutralized.
Tehran has strongly condemned the attacks, labeling them a violation of international law and vowing “appropriate retaliation.”
President Trump framed the strikes as a preemptive measure to halt Iran’s nuclear weapons programme and reiterated his commitment to preventing Tehran from achieving nuclear capability.
In his address, he emphasised the collaboration between the U.S. and Israel, praising Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his support. Trump also issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that any retaliation would be met with an even stronger response.
The strikes have provoked immediate international reactions. Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets hours after the strikes, escalating fears of a broader regional conflict.
Netanyahu called the operation a “historic turning point,” while the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres criticised it as a “dangerous escalation,” urging restraint and a return to diplomacy.
Domestically, the operation has sparked a polarised response. Republican lawmakers have lauded the strikes as a decisive move to protect global security, while many Democrats criticised the president for bypassing Congress and risking unconstitutional overreach of war powers.
The strikes also raised concerns over their potential to destabilise global oil markets, as heightened tensions in the region could disrupt supply chains and exacerbate inflationary pressures worldwide.
Strategically, the strikes appear to have temporarily crippled Iran’s nuclear capabilities, but analysts warn that Tehran may redirect its enrichment activities to covert facilities. The operation also underscores the risk of a prolonged conflict, as both nations prepare for potential retaliatory actions.
