Two persons were reportedly killed by robbers who raided a new generation bank in Igede Ekiti late yesterday.

Police said today that some other people sustained injuries and claimed that they have beefed up security in and around all the banks in the state.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the victims included an official of the bank and a private security guard also at the bank.

The Police Public Relations Officer {PPRO}, Mr. Caleb Ikechukwu, said police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing robbers.

Ikechukwu, however, did not confirm if the robbers made away with any cash from the bank but that the robbers had an encounter with the police.

He said the robbers drove into the bush and escaped into the thick forest which had already been surrounded by the police, adding that officers were combing the bush in search of the robbers.

“As we speak, our Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and State Intelligence Investigation Department (SIID) have drafted their men for intelligence gathering, while mobile policemen are on road and other critical areas”, he said.

Ikechukwu, however, urged members of the public to go about their normal businesses, assuring that the police are on top of the situation.
