Swift move by the police in Ogun State have led to the recovery of a stolen truck load of beer, and officers could celebrate by drinking to that.
NewsmakersNG learnt that two suspects were arrested for hijacking, at gunpoint, a truck load of Trophy lager beer moving from Ilesa to Iragbiji, in Osun State.
According to Ogun State police spokesman, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were arrested when policemen in Sagamu received a distress call that a yellow truck marked LEW 615 XA was hijacked by three armed men while coming from Ilesa with a load of Trophy beer valued at N2, 714, 000.
“The vehicle tracking device gave the robbers away as they moved towards Sagamu with the truck,” he said.
Oyeyemi added that the Area Commander at Sagamu, ACP Ibrahim Sa’ad Muhammad, quickly put all the patrol team around the area on red alert, and the anti-robbery team intercepted the truck along Sagamu/Ore Road.
One suspect was arrested on the spot and two others escaped with their arms.
The arrested suspect, Saheed Omotosho, disclosed that the product in the truck had been delivered to a receiver. He later led detectives to one Adijat Azeez, who was identified as the receiver at Ode-Remo where the product was recovered. She was promptly arrested.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the suspects to be transferred to FSARS for discreet investigation, while a manhunt was launched to get the fleeing members of the gang.
Iliyasu implored members of the public to report any crime committed in their area to the Police promptly with the assurance that immediate police action would be taken on such report.
