Five injured victims were battling for their lives today as the Lagos State commissioner of police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu visited the scene of gas explosion that claimed some lives in Baruwa area of Ipaja, Lagos.

The state police spokesman, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, told NewsmakersNG that the CP visited the scene of the gas explosion for on the spot assessment and sympathised with the victims of the inferno.

Adejobi stated: “The inferno, which broke out at the Bestroof Gas Station, Baruwa at 5.30am on Thursday, 8th October, 2020, caused damage to some buildings and facilities in the community. According to police findings, two persons were confirmed dead, while 5 persons are in critical condition at various hospital within the area for necessary medical attention.

“The Commissioner of Police seized the opportunity to sympathise with the victims whose property were touched by the inferno and assured them, and the entire community, of proper investigation into the incident and adequate security of lives and property in the area.

“The Commissioner of Police was accompanied and assisted on the scene assessment by some officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LRU) and a host of others.

“CP Hakeem Odumosu also admonished the residents of the community to steer clear of the scene which has been cordoned off for investigation and safety of all and sundry in the area, while he assured them of his readiness to work with all regulatory agencies of government to forestall such incidence in future and carry out necessary investigation to bring anyone culpable to book.”

In another development, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State played host to the new Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Paul Ayeni and team in his Ikeja office.

The police boss urged the new commandant to sustain the already established synergy between the two agencies to solidify security architecture in Lagos State.

In his response, the commandant appreciated the Commissioner of Police for his love and commitment to promote multi-agency collaboration in the state, and his zeal to partner with all stakeholders in achieving effective policing of Lagos State.
