Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State brought cheery news to Nigerians this morning when he disclosed that the coronavirus patient in the state has fully recovered and might be discharged today.

This come hours after the Oyo State government announced the recovery of the index Covid-19 case in the state.

Speaking via Skype on TVC breakfast programme, Your View, Fayemi said the lone coronavirus patient in the state has tested negative twice, adding that “with everything being equal, the patient will be discharged before the close of business today”.

“What that means is that by the end of today, Ekiti will have zero case of COVID-19 infection,” the governor added.

Likewise, Oyo State government in a statement yesterday said the COVID-19 case in the state, an American returnee, had been discharged.

The statement by Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, says “the release of the patient was consequent upon the completion of his treatment” at the Agbami Chest Hospital isolation centre, in Ibadan, the state capital.

“The American returnee had initially tested negative only for the second test to read positive.

“The index case had been on self-isolation at a private residence in Ibadan until he was transferred to the isolation centre at Agbami, Jericho area of Ibadan on March 23.”

“The index case was released after two consecutive negative tests,” the statement adds.

The statement also quotes the state’s incident manager, Taiwo Ladipo, as saying that the confirmed case spent six days in the isolation centre and had two negative tests.

“He is well and very stable and is now back to his house. The infectious disease specialist will be reviewing him for follow up action,” the official reportedly said.

According to official data as at the time of filing this report, Nigeria has a total of 131 COVID-19 cases and two deaths. Of the 131 cases, Oyo has eight and Ekiti has two.
