Tsunami from the East: Chris Isiguzo Braves Stormy Weathers to Emerge as NUJ President

After allegations of certificate forgery and threats to his job at This Day Newspapers, Mr Chris Isiguzo has today emerged as the new National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at a convention held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Here is the result as announced by the returning officer, Benson Upah:
Chris Isiquzo polled 346 votes.
Waheed Odusile polled 329 votes
Dele Atunbi polled 101 votes
Abiodun Olalere 56 votes
Usaka polled 30 votes
Jacob Edi polled  16  votes
Otunba Mike Aladenika polled 8 votes.

Other new officers include Chief Iheanyi Echeta, Vice President General, Ikedi Azaribe, Secretary-General, High Chief Goddy Ezeocha, Treasurer, Humphery Igwe, Publicity Secretary, Mr Chinedu Asiegbu, Financial Secretary, Ndudim Jonah, Assistant Financial Secretary, Job Obarigwe, Welfare, Kelechi Nmesirionye, Adindu and Chukwudi Uzoukwu emerged as Circular bearers.

In his acceptance speech, the new President described the election as a call to service which he pledged to do selflessly and with dedication.

Meanwhile, the outgoing President, Mr Waheed Odusile, has congratulated the winner.
