Truck Loses Control, Kills Several Students in Lagos

A truck has rammed a group of students in Lagos, killing no fewer than five and injuring several more. Witnesses say the casualty figure could go up.

The victims were identified as students of Ojodu Grammar School, Ojodu, Lagos.

The accident happened along Isheri Road, just before the Ojodu Police Station.

Reports say the driver lost control while trying to evade arrest by Vehicle Inspection Officers before ramming the children who just closed for the day.

Following the incident, other students and angry youths took to the roads in protest.

They allegedly attempted to attack the Ojodu Police Station after vandalising sevaral trucks on the road.

Police officers have barricaded their gates and are firing gunshots and tear gas canisters at intervals.

Businesses along the road have shut down while vehicular traffic is grounded.

Witnesses said the truck driver ran into the children just outside Ojodu Grammar School and sped away.

He was however pursued and caught around Ogba and was brought back to the station.
