Hordes of admirers have been paying tributes to the memories of Nigeria’s celebrated art patron, sports administrator and music lover, Chief Frank Okonta, who died on August 27.
He was 80.
Many people described him as a passionate art patron and sports enthusiast.
One of the admirers, Mallam Nasir Danladi Bako, a veteran broadcaster and a former Director-General of National Broadcasting Commission stated in a tribute on Facebook: “Chief Frank Okonta (80) passed away on Tuesday in the United Kingdom. He was my bosom friend and “family” of 40 years standing. Great sports administrator, great music aficionado, and information manager par excellence he was. When Gen Obasanjo acknowledges a man in one of his books “Ojukwu”; when Pres. Babangida calls him on a first-name basis, when Fela, Manu Dibango et al socialize with him over a drink regularly, you get an idea of the mogul we have just lost. Goodnight, Chief Okonta.
