Former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi has failed in his bid to claim the Oyo South senatorial seat, as the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan dismissed the petition filed on behalf of Ajimobi by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
The 3-man-panel tribunal led by Justice Anthony Akpovi ruled that the petitioner failed to establish that the election did not conform with the provisions of the electoral act, which saw Kola Balogun of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeating Ajimobi, who was then a sitting Governor, in 8 out of 9 local Government area in the District.
The Oyo State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) had asked the tribunal to cancel the election in all 9 local Government areas and order a fresh election owing to alleged irregularities in the February 23, 2019 election.
In a unanimous judgement delivered by Justice Akpovi, the tribunal posited that no credible witnesses were called to prove the allegation of corrupt practises, thuggery and ballot box snatching as contained in All Progressives Congress(APC’s) petition.
