An online video shows the moment an intruder attempted to attack President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit to Kebbi State today.
Security aides can be seen scrambling to stop the unidentified attacker as Buhari and other dignitaries lined up for a group photograph.
The President was attending the grand finale of the Argungu International Agricultural Show and Cultural Festival when the incident occurred.
Commenting on the incident in a Twitter post this evening, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said it was not an attack, rather, an attempt by a young admirer to shake the President’s hand.
Adesina wrote, “A young man was very excited to see his President at the Argungu fishing festival. He made to walk straight to him for a handshake. Security details prevented it. Now, opposite people are passing it off as an attempt to attack the President. How malicious can some people be!”
Earlier, the President had inspected an array of agricultural products on display during the festival.
